Allen was always a sports fan & participated in basketball & football in Elementary, Junior & Senior High Schools. He was also a good student who was well liked by many students and teachers. Allen graduated from Creston High School in 1997 and made lifelong friends. He enjoyed these friends, relationships and activities and realized he wanted to become a teacher and coach.

Allen attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated with a BA in Education in 1981. Together they traveled across the United States participating in Track Meets. During these travels Allen also took a personal interest in the lives of other students. He was a fund raiser, idealist, organizer and established a lasting bond with the current track teams. Allen also enjoyed his free time and was an avid fisherman. He and Buddy would catch perch, walleye, silver bass and whatever was biting at the time. Together, they shared the love of fishing with many relatives and friends.

On April 21, 2010, Allen developed a blood clot in his left leg that quickly traveled to his heart. He was able to have Buddy at his bedside before he made his transition.
